John Desmond ‘Des’ Parsons

John Desmond ‘Des’ Parsons was my uncle. He was profoundly deaf. He was a brilliant mathematician, a scholar and Gold medal winner at Trinity College, Dublin. See People Like Us for more. Des took over managing the Parsons Shoe business when his father retired. He was a keen and expert golfer. He played for Trinity College. He married Beppa Sharkey, a Montessori teacher. She was also a very good golfer. However Beppa was a Roman Catholic and Des had to wait until his father died before they could marry. There are many stories about Uncle Des in ‘People Like Us’.
