Richard Dancer Purefoy was my great granduncle, brother of my great grandfather, Amyrald Dancer Purefoy. Richard Dancer Purefoy was a very well known doctor in late 19th and early 20th century Dublin. He was the Master of the Rotunda Hospital from 1896 – 1903, president of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland, 1912 – 1914, president of the Royal Academy of Medicine, Ireland 1915 -1918. He was a member of the Select Vestry of St Ann’s Church in Dawson Street, He lived at 62 Merrion Square for many years. He was a member of the Freemasons and sang in many of Dublin’s best amateur choirs.
