Grace Kathleen was my grandmother. I never knew her as she died before I was born. She was born in Drumdarten Glebe in Ballinamore, Co Leitrim. When she was four the family moved to Athlone where her father, George, was appointed the rector of St Peter’s Church. She married George Thomas Parsons. Her four children were all born at home in ‘Granaoge’ in Garden Vale in Athlone. In 1920 the family moved to Greystones and lived in ‘Dromore’ Portland Road. According to my mother Grace was sweet and very nice. She died at the young age of 63 from Parkinson’s Disease.
