Mary Parsons, nee Lenney, was my great grandmother. When she and John Parsons married in 1860 she was living in the premises of Hopkins Drapery in Grafton St. I think she was an apprentice draper. I imagine that Mary was a great help to her husband, John, as he expanded the business. The Parsons family lived above the Parsons Shoe Shop in Victoria Place, Athlone. Mary gave birth to six children in Victoria Place Athlone. Her eldest daughter, Edith, died of TB there when she was 18. When Mary’s husband John died in 1909, Mary went to live with her daughter Violet in Dublin.
